After being assigned this role in our class’s latest project I was hit instantly with anxiety. “what could that possibly mean?” I wondered, It seems like the more I thought about it the less sense it actually made. After days of googling I resorted to the reference I probably should have gone to in the first place: my teacher. As it turned out, an Instructional designer pretty much designs the website in the easiest way to understand i.e. the person who decides where each link is placed, how the hierarchy is ordered, etc. Their primary focus is on the audience rather than the actual website.
I suspect the immediate problems i’ll have will be with the process book. I’m fairly confident in my web designing skills to be able to know what makes the most sense when it comes to a layout but process books were never my strong suit. In previous classes i’d forget to keep one running throughout and end up having to scramble together a few items to make a poor book. However this time around i’m going to be sure to keep everything, mostly because I have other people relying on me now, whereas before it was just myself i’d be letting down.
